The Ice House
Beverly Hills, California

Barton Myers Associates' design for the renovation of the 1925 ice storage house for Beverly Hills transforms the Ice House into an elegant modern office building, while celebrating the industrial character of its history. The renovation plays a key role in the City of Beverly Hills' plan to revitalize the light industrial area around the City's Civic Center.

In maintaining an industrial aesthetic, the massive concrete building is now punctuated by a rhythm of large steel and glass factory sash windows. New additions to the building are elegant steel structures which play against the solidity of the original concrete structure, and announce the renovation with deference to the original building. A 45-foot high steel and glass screen serves as a new façade for the building, while a 150-foot long steel beam marks new vehicular and pedestrian entrances.
