UCLA Northwest Campus Housing
Los Angeles, California

Based on a master plan by Barton Myers Associates, UCLA's Northwest Campus Housing expansion is the first phase of a major redevelopment of the University's residential and recreational facilities.

In the BMA design for the first phase, 1,232 students and ten faculty with families are housed in three colleges, each comprised of a series of houses, grouped around courtyards whose character varies with the configuration and the site. BMA carefully sited the low-rise buildings to respond to adjacent natural and man-made features, and the resulting landscape is one of intimate, pedestrian-scaled spaces.

The new housing blocks have been designed to double, during the summer months, as an integrated conference facility serving both privately-organized and academic events. They sit atop a podium formed by a new parking structure, and are secured within a single controlled entry point promoting a sense of both community and security.
